SPRING

SPRING

March 20th, 2023

WARMER AND LONGER DAYS FILLED WITH SWIRLING BUTTERFLIES AND BEES

It is March 20th, and the entire northern hemisphere relishes the first day of Spring. Animals, birds, and insects become more active, and even we become more cheerful.

As the sun, once again, begins to warm the earth, the hillsides start humming, swirling with butterflies, bees, and dragonflies adorned with blooming flowers.

Citrus, plum, and cherry trees burst into fragrant blossoms. The days grow longer, and the first wild poppies appear.

The vernal equinox is here once again.

AEGEAN

In the Aegean, as everywhere else around the globe, Spring is the season of rebirth and renewal, as the island landscapes come alive with vibrant colors of wildflowers, including poppies, anemones, and daisies. The olive groves and vineyards start to sprout new growth, and fruit trees such as apricots, cherries, and peaches bloom, filling the air with their sweet fragrance.

PHYTOPLANKTON

One of the most significant changes during Spring is the blooming of phytoplankton, a crucial food source for many marine organisms. As the phytoplankton population increases, it attracts other microorganisms such as zooplankton, small fish, and crustaceans, providing food for larger fish, seabirds, and marine mammals.

During Spring, many species of fish that have migrated to deeper waters during the winter months slowly return to the shallower waters of the Mediterranean to spawn and feed. These fish include tuna and sardines.

The increase in fish populations during Spring also attracts other predators, such as sharks, dolphins, and sea turtles, which migrate to the Mediterranean for food and breeding opportunities.

Spring also marks the start of the breeding season for many marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales, and seals, who come to the Mediterranean to mate and give birth.

Spring is a time of great activity and abundance in the Mediterranean. Marine life begins to awaken from the colder months of winter, and the sea becomes a thriving ecosystem rich in biodiversity and life.

You should always apply Sapphō’s Serum first before sealing the treatment with a couple of drops of Ex Prūnīs or our Eratō’s Multipurpose Essence (if you prefer richer texture).
