MARULA OIL

SCLEROCARYA BIRREA SEED OIL

CULTIVATED IN SOUTH AFRICA

Wildharvested African Marula fruit of the African Savanna tree, Sclerocarya birreahas, has nutritious and protein-rich seeds. Traditionally, these seeds get opened with different techniques in Africa. On a sandy coastal plain of the Ingavuma district in South Africa, locals crack the nut against a stone slab. In contrast, in parts of Namibia, locals crack the marula nut against an ax blade using a block of hardwood (e.g., Terminalia sericea).

Whatever the method used, hand extraction has to be skilled since the shells are tough, and the kernels must remain whole.

It is a deeply moisturizing and nourishing oil that prevents transepidermal water loss, increasing moisture retention.

RICH IN: fatty acids.
